Yaxley Runners have been setting great times in the Peterborough 5K Grand Prix series. Race 1 saw PBs for Hugh Burton, Andrew Johnson, Anna Totterdell and Sarah Endicott. In Race 2 there were 7 PBs – James Mogridge, Charlie Evans, Hugh Burton, Mark Evans, Karen Ives, Paul McCarthy and Sarah Endicott. Father and son team Mark and Charlie Evans both improved again to set a further PBs in race 3 with Hugh Burton equalling his PB from the previous race.
Race 4 was at Stamford, where the course in much tougher, saw only the in form Chris Hewitt set a personal best. It was the first race in this year’s club championship and there was a big turnout with 27 Yaxley Runners completing the course, representing 15% of the field. In the men’s championship last year’s first and second of James Mogridge and Mike Morley were unchallenged but an epic battle developed for third place with Mark Evans, Hugh Burton, Kyle Ballantyne and Mike Branston all holding third spot at different stages of the race. With all four runners finishing within a 6 second period it was Burton who won the sprint for the line. The first 3 places in the ladies champs were also closely contested with Tasha Johnson shaking up the mix by storming clear of Ros Loutit and Karen Ives in the closing stages. This is Loutit’s first defeat in a championship race since February 2013 and really sets up a great battle for the ladies event this season.
